To ensure that GP VTS training and education meets the needs of today’s NHS while maintaining the highest possible clinical quality and safety thus reducing the potential for error and harm while providing a supportive environment for its trainees.
The GMC has a number of key functions that relate to you as GP Specialist Training Registrars including:
- It quality assures the activities of deaneries and individual training programmes.
- It quality assures the MRCGP.
- It assesses equivalent experience for trainees who have not completed a conventional specialist training programme – the so-called article 11 route.
- It issues your certificate of completion of training (CCT).

Deaneries should be able to draw upon the same information to inform quality assurance and quality control, as they use for quality management.
