This post is for a 12 month fixed term post for a newly qualified GP who would like to experience inner city deprived general practice in an innovative and progressive organisational setting. It combines the opportunity to explore General Practice work with protected and supported two sessions of time for education and/or research depending upon the interests of the successful candidate. The one session education component will be supported by the School of Primary Care (Severn Deanery) and the one session research by University of Bristol.
The practice holds the contract for the Equitable Access Centre in Swindon and has 8,500 registered patients but also operates the Swindon urgent care walk in service as well as the community TB contract. It is open every day of the year for 12 hours per day. The practice has a range of services that are directed towards hard to reach and deprived communities and continues to look for innovative ways of reaching the target population to improve their health status.
Carfax Health Enterprise is a training practice with two trainers and a long history of medical and non-medical training and development. The skills of the staff, both doctors and nurses, provides for an environment where a newly qualified GP would be supported in experiencing practice, develop skills in aspects of medicine that they may not have been exposed to during their training and a wealth of clinical material and expertise that could provide the basis for excellent research.
The service commitment would be between half and full time (full time is 37.5 hours per week) and would be remunerated by the practice on its current salaried GP scale. All GPs in the practice are salaried and the practice is itself a non-profit making social enterprise regulated as a Community Interest Company. All GPs participate in weekend and evening workload cover.
