New Associate Postgraduate Dean for GP Appraisal and Revalidation

As many of you will know Richard Wharton is leaving us for an exciting new role as co-medical director of the BANES - Wiltshire PCT cluster. He has achieved much during his time at the deanery, and we wish him well in his new post.

Following a successful recent recruitment process, I have appointed Martyn Hewett as his replacement. Richard will be handing over through the remainder of this year, with the hope that Martyn will formally take over the mantle in January. This is an exciting time for the appraisal and revalidation agenda with the much delayed introduction of enhanced appraisal to support revalidation, further development to the Severn Appraisal Toolkit and the piloting of revalidation for trainees.

Martyn comes with educational credibility in spades having worked as a GP in Cirencester, trainer, training programme director and educational lead at the RCGP Severn Faculty. He holds the FRCGP by assessment, and an MSc from Bristol University in Medical Education. He has a particular interest in supporting and developing newly qualified GPs. He is also a thoroughly nice chap.

I am sure you will all join with me in welcoming him warmly to his new role at the school.
