Practice Nurse Foundation Programme

This innovative, exciting programme will enable development of clinical skills, new knowledge & learning to prepare practice nurses for their role in general practice.

The programme involves:

  • 4 hour introduction to the online programme resources
  • Only 5 workshops to attend
  • Competency led (clinical skills achieved in the workplace)
  • Portfolio assessed
  • Provision of workplace support for practice nurse team
  • Opportunity for accreditation (20 credits)

The course aims to:

  • Deliver an innovative programme with a variety of learning approaches
  • Enable new nurses to gain relevant skills and competencies to meet the needs of General Practice
  • Ensure that Practice Nurses meet required standards of care in line with national and local health and social care policies
  • Update knowledge and develop clinical and primary care skills
  • Provide practical training that is cost and time effective.


  • January 20th 2015 (Introduction day for module applicants)

The following workshop dates can be attended individually:

  • February 3rd Clinical Skills e.g. Phlebotomy, Introduction to respiratory care, STI swabs
  • March 3rd Vaccinations
  • March 31st Wound Care
  • May 5th Ear Care
  • June 2nd Physical Assessment
  • July 16th Submission date for Evidencing Work Based Learning module applicants
